Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite
In the 1960s, the world was on the verge of defeating malaria. Cases were falling, and optimism was high. But in 1969, global eradication efforts were paused. The consequences were devastating: millions of lives lost and decades of progress erased. It took 30 years for the world to reignite the fight.
We can’t let history repeat itself.
On World Malaria Day 2025, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, and partners around the world are calling for renewed momentum through this year’s theme: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”
This is more than a slogan—it’s a global grassroots campaign to mobilise action from every level, from heads of state to community health workers, from lab researchers to everyday citizens.
We Know What Works—But Progress Has Stalled!
Since the global community recommitted to malaria in the late 1990s, we’ve made incredible gains:
2.2 billion cases prevented!
12.7 million lives saved!
But now, that hard-won progress is at risk.
- Malaria still kills one person every minute, mostly in Africa.
- Extreme weather, conflict, and economic instability are disrupting control programs.
- Millions are cut off from life-saving prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Without timely care, malaria can quickly become deadly—especially for young children and pregnant women.
It’s Time to Act—Again
We have the tools. We know the science. We’ve seen the results.
Now we must:
Reinvest in what works—like bed nets, vaccines, timely diagnosis, and frontline care.
Reimagine how we deliver services in fragile and remote settings, using innovation and local leadership.
Reignite the political will and community energy that made past progress possible.
Ending malaria is not just a public health priority—it’s a moral obligation and a smart investment in equity, security, and economic growth.
Everyone Has A Role To Play
If you’re a healthcare professional: Keep up the fight on the frontlines. Advocate for continued support and smarter strategies.
If you’re a policymaker: Make malaria a priority in your budgets and national health plans.
If you’re a citizen: Protect your family. Stay informed. Support local and global efforts.
The choice is clear: Act now—or risk sliding backwards.
Let’s make this the moment we chose to finish what we started.
On World Malaria Day, let’s Reinvest. Reimagine. Reignite. Because Malaria Ends With Us.
