Hello, Monday!

And hello to you!

Mondays come with different flavours.

Some are fast-paced and exciting, while some are slow and sluggish. Well, whatever flavour rubs off on you, there are always ways you can make the best of your day and week.

Last week, we discussed how to start your week off right. It was an attempt at trying to initiate a fresh series of discussions on productivity.

Today, I will write briefly on how to recognise the most important people in your life.

The people in our lives come in different shapes, sizes, colours, textures and flavours.

There are people with whom you must spend a lot of time. Why? Well, because they add a lot of value to you.

They:

  • Inspire you to become more.
  • Make you think about your future and plan.
  • They challenge your growth and development.
  • They teach you about finance and how to grow and manage your money.

Overall, they add something to your life, and you must labour to keep them close and nurture the relationship.

On the other hand, there are people you must try not to spend too much time with because they don’t have any value to add to your life.

Now, you must understand that this is not an attempt to make you feel or think you’re better than anybody. Not at all. It’s about knowing who you are and where you’re going and being very selective about the people you bring close to you.

Take A Productivity Census!

If you are a business person or an entrepreneur, you should know the kind of people to spend your time with.

It’s simple.

Spend time with fellow entrepreneurs who are working hard and smart to grow their businesses or brands.

They have ideas that match yours. They can correct you, direct you, guide and even help you grow.

Personally, I deliberately stay away from anyone who doesn’t think like me.

Once I discover that you don’t understand me when I talk about purpose, ideas, and building things, I begin to look for ways to spend less time with you.

You should do the same thing.

If you’re a healthcare professional seeking to advance in your career, you shouldn’t be spending time with people who don’t care about career progression.

They will slow you down, and you may not even realise that they are doing so. Look for colleagues who are also working hard, like you, to advance their careers and connect with them.

Let’s say you’ve been planning to pursue your master’s, PhD, or take an advanced course. Instead of spending time with people who’ve given up on career development, look for someone who is going ahead of you or someone like you who wants to grow.

This is how you recognise the right people in your life.

Friends who only come to you for fun and enjoyment are not supposed to be at the centre of your life.

Keep them somewhere around the corner. Then those who are always talking about doing new things are the ones who should be kept closer.

Take a census today and pick those who will add more value to your life, while those who are not adding anything must be relegated to the background.

That friend who consistently sends you new courses, tools, articles, webinars, workshops, and other resources that challenge you to keep learning and growing is the one you should bring closer.

The person who only sends memes, funny things, and movie tickets all the time shouldn’t be taken seriously. Now, don’t think I’m saying you shouldn’t have some fun. Please enjoy yourself, but do it responsibly.

In conclusion, as we navigate through the myriad of relationships in our lives, it’s essential to be intentional about whom we invest our time and energy in.

Surrounding ourselves with those who inspire and challenge us not only boosts our productivity but also fuels our personal growth.

Remember, it’s not about cutting people off entirely; it’s about prioritising connections that add meaningful value to your journey.

Take a moment to evaluate the relationships in your life. Keep those who encourage you to reach for the stars close while gently easing away from those who don’t serve your higher purpose.

Life is too short to be surrounded by negativity or stagnation. Let’s strive to cultivate a community of supportive, like-minded individuals who uplift us and inspire us to chase our dreams.

Here’s to making the most of this week and every week that follows!

We’re gradually starting a new discussion series.

Be sure to follow through.

Catch you next week Monday.
