Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.

G.D Anderson

I have experienced, first hand, the strength & power of a woman.

My sweet mother is a woman so strong, you’d think she just had the body of a woman and the heart of a man.

As a growing young man, I felt secure in her presence. Her words gave me strength & infused my spirit with hope whenever I became weak or tired or encountered a challenging situation.

When I saw her work, I was inspired to work, and not give up. She was our nurse, doctor, engineer, architect, counselor & captain. And today, even though all her kids are all grown-ups, we still reverence and respect her greatly.

And my wife, who has been an awesome partner, solid support, and amazing woman.

And my sisters, cousins, nephews, aunties, colleagues, and friends.

Celebrating Strength

Today, we celebrate women all over the world who are staying strong.

This year’s theme is timely and it speaks directly against all things that try to silence the voice of the woman.

It speaks against stereotypes and discrimination and is poised at making society a place that accommodates gender equality, in schools, communities, workplaces, and all over.

Break The Bias

And as a brand that understands the power of equality [and the limiting effects of inequality], we stand with all women on earth — our mothers, friends, aunties, colleagues & partners, celebrating this memorable day that reminds us that women are not just symbols or objects.

They are the chains that hold society together.

History & time have revealed that women are formidable, and are equal to the task of building our world and making it a better place.

Women like Marie Curie, the Physicist, who shook the world with her phenomenal discoveries in science [she won two Nobel Prizes, one in Physics & the other in Chemistry and she remains the only person to be awarded the prestigious prize in multiple sciences], Maya Angelou, Anne Frank, Florence Nightingale who erected the foundations of modern nursing, Rosa Parks, Miriam Sakiba, Funmilayo Ransom Kuti, Queen Idia, Queen Nanny of the Windward Maroons of Jamaica, Yaa Asantewa, Obi Ezekwesili, Professor Prisca Adejumo, and a host of other world-changing, history-making women.

The world has seen women who have shaped medicine & nursing, science & technology, religion & faith, economics, arts, and the business world — they have won Nobel Prizes & Grammies, scaled the highest heights, and we still have women in our age who are contributing heavily to all aspects of human life.

Fiercely intelligent women changing the narratives and breaking the rules.

To all women out there, we celebrate your strength, uniqueness, and beauty.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at Care City. Together, let’s break the bias…
