Last week, we explored the mission statements of leading global healthcare brands, and the week before, we featured 50 mission statements from leading brands.
Today, we’re coming home and presenting to you 20 mission statements from some of the leading healthcare brands in Africa.
Africa’s healthcare ecosystem is rapidly evolving, driven by the explosion of digital health, the latest advances in artificial intelligence, and the increased involvement of visionary private players.
We’re experiencing the bold rise of ultra-modern hospitals labouring to curb medical tourism, non-profits tackling some of the most pervasive healthcare crises on the continent, and digital health and health tech startups leveraging digital technologies to combat the continent’s most pressing public health challenges through advocacy, strategic communications and community engagements, and each is driven by strong and bold missions.
We’re going to feature the mission statements of some of Africa’s leading healthcare brands, from hospitals to NGOs, digital health startups, and healthcare supply chain companies. These mission statements encapsulate the WHY & HOW of these brands.
The primary reason why we’re doing this is to inspire Africa’s healthcare innovators, leaders, and entrepreneurs who are about to start their building journeys. They can draw inspiration from the mission statements of some of Africa’s leading healthcare brands. There are also those who’ve been building; perhaps they want to update or modify their brand’s mission statements to reflect their growth, vision, and current trajectory.
As I always mention, your mission statement isn’t a bunch of cleverly written statements or sentences meant to design your website, decorate your social media or impress anyone. It’s more than that.
These statements encapsulate your brand’s very culture.
What you stand for, who you are, where you are going, and the promise you make to everyone who decides to be part of your journey.

This isn’t an exhaustive list.
There are numerous healthcare companies and brands in Africa challenging the status quo and innovating in Africa’s harsh environment; this list captures just a few.
Despite Africa’s hard terrain, there are scores of companies pushing through!
Most of them are even pioneering cultures and building whole operating systems from the ground up.
Building anything in Africa is different.
Most of the systems and structures needed to sustain innovative ideas are not available, leaving companies with no choice but to abandon their original ideas or shelve them and build platforms from scratch that will later support their ideas and others.
Next, we will explore the mission statements of leading healthcare brands in Nigeria.
If you’re a healthcare leader, entrepreneur or innovator in building in Nigeria, the mission statements of some of Nigeria’s leading healthcare brands will inspire you to keep putting in the work and remind you about your WHY.
