We cannot solve a problem by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.

Albert Einstein

The world runs on the ever-moving and dynamic wheels of innovation.

Without innovation, the progress that we enjoy in every area of life will not be possible. Innovation has positively affected the way we dress, the food we eat, the way we transport ourselves from one place to the other, the way healthcare is been delivered, and even affects the more conservative domain of religion [don’t ask me how].

With cultural changes, improvements, and development, the human race tends to adjust to these perceived changes, and the process of adjusting to these changes can be called innovation. The disruptions that we have experienced in various industries on the planet were made possible because there were minds ready to take on the challenge of innovating, looking for better ways of doing things.

There are always better ways of doing things. Many surgical procedures have been improved upon. With the help of innovation and research, medicine has been able to come up with fresh and exciting ways of taking care of the human body.

Nursing practice has also been affected greatly by the twin elements of Innovation & Research. New ideas have emerged. Theories have been built. Leadership breakthroughs have been developed in the laboratory of Innovation & Research. And the progress continues…

On a daily basis, I take my mind through a compulsory mental exercise, it’s like I have an invisible tiny gym in my brain, where I make my mind work, by thinking of new ways of doing things.

Not just healthcare stuff, but everyday things; like how to help take small businesses in my environment online, how to utilize the power of the internet to solve everyday problems in my community, and a whole lot of mental adventures I take my mind through, and I can literally feel the adrenaline course through my young veins as I think; imagine; create; construct, and demonstrate in my own invisible world of innovation. You should think daily, it helps your creative abilities remain sharp & receptive to fresh ideas.

Innovation starts in the heart. And it should end in reality. No idea is foolish, believe me, no idea is stupid. When the Wright Brothers came up with the idea to put metal in the sky, they were considered fools. But today, we have all sorts of things flying in our skies, because a couple of fellows dared to believe the impossible.

Dare to believe the impossible. Don’t stop at just believing, let it become a reality first to you, then you take the bold step of translating your ideas into reality. It’s a process, and I must tell you this; It takes time, but it’s worth the time, the stress, and the energy.

Look around you today. In your place of work, there are ideas waiting to be awakened. The healthcare industry is rife with innovative opportunities waiting to be seized by those who have enough courage to take on the challenge of innovating.

If you are scared of failing, then this game is not for you. If you are bothered about not having people who will buy into your ideas, then this path is not for you. Ideas are not attractive when born. But as they grow & develop, they begin to attract the ornaments that will beautify them.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by and that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost
