The conference explored the various ways through which digital technology is changing the face of healthcare practice and how healthcare professionals can maximize the potential of digital technology to optimize their practice.
There were approximately 170 registered participants from more than 20 states across Nigeria.
Although the primary focus of the conversation was on Africa, the conference also drew on perspectives from other countries of the world.
The event, the first of its kind in Nigeria was organized by Carecode Digital Health Hub, an arm of Care City.
The event’s format involved a mixture of keynote speeches, presentations on topical issues, and extensive panel discussions, as well as a digital showroom, plus time for formal and informal networking.
Uniquely, the conference brought and will continue to bring together all the major stakeholders in Digital health, including policymakers, industry representatives, and expert consultants, facilitating a rounded discussion with multiple viewpoints, and exceptionally high quality of useful information.
This report, prepared by Carecode summarizes the main discussions held during the conference, including an overview of each of the main points discussed at the event.

DAY 1
The first day of the conference featured a keynote speech on digital health as the mainstay of 21st-century healthcare delivery and the career pathway for transiting from healthcare into health-tech.
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Akangbe Raphael, a digital health expert, and an EMR/HER consultant while the career transition presentation was delivered by Dr. Funmi Adewara, the CEO/Founder of Mobihealth International.
SESSION 1: KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
Dr. Akangbe Raphael, started by exploring the different definitions of digital health.
He further simplified the concept of digital health by sampling opinions from various field experts and scholars. He continued by digging out the history of digital health from the first time it started, the emergence phase of digital health, and the current acceleration stage.
The contribution of tech in the pre-covid era was also compared with the post-covid period, inference showing how much tech has impacted healthcare was drawn from this comparison.
Dr. Raphael went ahead to also examine the major key players in digital health, and the role of individuals, policymakers, and end-users in the implementation and utilization of digital health.
SESSION 2: TOPIC PRESENTATION
Dr. Funmi Adewara took the conference participant on a journey of deep thought in her very immersive and enlightening session where she discussed the career pathway for transiting from healthcare into health-tech.
She shared her story of how she built a World Bank multi-award-winning digital health platform.
Her story explored, step-by-step, how she maneuvered her way from healthcare to health-tech.
She defined health-tech as the interception between health and technology.
Moving forward, she explained that digital health is a more complex concept compared to the simpler explanation of health-tech.
The market valuation of digital health was also examined and she stated in her words that the market is growing astronomically.
The market is proposed to reach a market value of 504 billion dollars by 2025.
She briefly highlighted the digital health trends to watch out for in this decade. She also listed the major stakeholders in the digital health value chain to be patients, healthcare professionals, companies, policymakers, education and research institute, and funders.
She stated the roles of each stakeholder and as well the benefit individual stakeholder derives from digital health.
As she ended her presentation, she discussed the step-by-step method of becoming digitally literate, as well as ways to deploy the skills in practice.
DAY 2
The second day of the conference featured a digital showroom where Ns. Oluwatobi Adewumi [Co-founder of Carecode Digital Health Hub] displayed and described the trending digital health solutions.
This session was preceded by a goodwill message from Ns. Hon. Fawole Israel, the speaker of the Oyo state youth parliament, Nigeria [who is also a digital health enthusiast].
The session was followed by the panel discussion on the topic “Challenges of Implementation and Utilization of Digital Health Solutions in Nigeria and Africa”, also the way forward to solving these challenges were discussed.
Panelists included Dr. Simpa Dania, A medical doctor and Digital Health Consultant, Ns Ayinla Daniel, A Cardiothoracic Nurse, and a Digital Health Expert and founder of Care City, Olutola Awosiku, a medical laboratory scientist and co-founder of Diatron Health. Also, Ns Olagunju Adeyemi, a registered nurse in the United Kingdom shared insight on how digital health is currently being utilized in the NHS to optimize care delivery.
The panel discussion was facilitated by Oluwatobi Adewumi. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions and the panelists provided satisfactory answers to all questions.
After the panel discussion, there was a brief networking session, conference resources, and some links that participants would find useful were shared.
Links to health-tech communities were also shared.
The conference ended on a good note with about 50 participants from different regions of the country and outside the country.
